Burts — hand-cooked British potato chips, made in small batches in Devon.
Richard and Linda Burt discovered proper hand-cooked chips on a trip to America, came home to Devon, and started making their own in 1995. They sold them round local farm shops, delis and pubs. Thirty years on the crisps are still hand-cooked in small batches, now in Roborough just outside Plymouth.
The recipe has never needed much: quality potatoes, oil and good seasoning. Every pack is made with Red Tractor assured British potatoes — Burts was the first hand-cooked crisp brand to earn that — and every crisp is free from MSG, artificial colours, artificial flavourings and hydrogenated fat. Local partners supply the flavours, right down to the chillies from South Devon Chilli Farm.
The detail that says everything: the name of the potato farmer and the master fryer who cooked your batch is printed on the back of the bag.
